Torri del Benaco - Culture
Torri del Benaco has much to offer as far as culture is concerned. The rupestrian inscriptions that have been quite recently found on the slopes of Monte Baldo represent scenes from daily life, including weapons and games that were played. The castle was enlarged by Antonio della Scala in 1383. The castle was made to defend the city and has three towers, all of which is surrounded by the ruins of the town walls that protected the town of Torri del Benaco. Near the castle, is located a church dedicated to the Saints Pietro and Paolo, which houses some exquisitely marble work and paintings. The church is now dedicated to those who died in war. At the entrance to the town is the church of San Giovanni. Heading towards the neighbourhood of Coi is the church of Sant’ Antonio, which dates back to 300. Just outside of Torri del Benaco is the church of Saints Faustino and Giovita. In Piazza Calderoni are the headquarters of the Captaincy, which was built in 1452. Here there is also the Berengario Tower and the epigraph dedicated to the humanist Calderoni.
